Brodie McCarthy, a grade 12 Montague Regional High student sustained a serious head injury this past weekend while playing Rugby. In a freak accident McCarthy was injured, causing a brain injury that required surgery. The schools principal said “On Saturday, doctors conducted a CAT scan which revealed no brain activity. The school has confirmed on their website: We were saddened to learn of the sudden death of one of our students, Brodie McCarthy. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy are with his family and friends.
According to Statistics Canada, sports like rugby, football and hockey were the top 3 most common sports for males aged 15-19 to sustain a Concussions and other brain injuries between 2012 and 2014.
Brodie’s family will be donating his organs for the benefit of others.
